There are so many reasons to have your family photo session at home. Here are five of them.
1. Your kids will be most comfortable at home and so will you
I understand that taking photos isn’t everyone’s favorite thing to do.
In fact, when chatting to families leading up to their session, it’s one of the most common things I hear. “I am worried that my kiddos won’t sit still and smile for photos”, or that mama feels self-conscious about the idea of being in front of the camera, or that dad would prefer to be poked repeatedly with a blunt object, if it means not having to sit for family photos.
Trust me, I completely understand.
But do you know where kids and let’s face it – basically everyone else – feels most comfortable and relaxed? Their home.
I’ve never met a kid who didn’t ooze charm and charisma after giving me a tour around their home. They radiate pride as they show off their room and favorites toys.
2. Your photographs will be more than just pretty pictures – we will capture real memories
We will capture your kids’ unique personalities and those little moments that you never want to forget. Like the way your kids jump off the bed or couch, despite the fact that you yell at them daily not to do that. Or how they look, as they construct a Lego masterpiece in the patch of light by the front door. Your photos will capture the way they squeal and giggle as they snuggle up with your pup on the living-room floor.
Undoubtedly, this is the very stuff that makes up your kid’s childhood. These are your family’s memories.
3. You’ll have something that tells the narrative of this season in your family’s story
To your little son or daughter, this is the very first place in which they ever belonged. Your home is what they will think back to with warm and fond memories.
Your children will remember the kitchen table at which they ate breakfast every morning. They will remember big rug in the living-room that they ran circles around. And they will remember the backyard that they explored for hours, pretending it was a jungle full of adventures.
How wonderfully special it is to document your family in this season of life in your home.
4. A family photo session at home can take place at any time, regardless of the weather
Planning an outdoor session can sometimes be tricky. And in Spokane, we don’t always know how the weather is going to hold up; will it be rainy, cloudy, or will there be a random wind storm?
But at home, you can proceed with your plans regardless of the weather. You’ll never have to worry about rescheduling due to that crazy Spokane weather.
Also, let’s not forget that when you’re a family with little ones, flexibility with time is extremely helpful. Outdoor sessions often means that your session will be in the evening, close to your kiddo’s bed time. But an in-home family photo session, can be planned around your baby or toddler’s sleep schedule.
And how perfect is that?
5. When we photograph our beautiful ordinary lives, our kids learn an important truth
This is enough, they are enough, just as they are.
This home is yours. These crazy kids are yours.
That crib with the teeth marks, the sofa chair that was once your grandfather’s and the fridge covered in busy artwork. It is all yours.
You don’t need a perfect sunset, fancy clothes, and everyone in their Sunday best to be arranged in a neat and pretty line to be beautiful.
This is real, this is perfect and this is your story.
